Knowitall.org

Once in a while I stumble upon a website that should get far more attention than it does.

The site from Knowitall.org is one of them.
It's ETV's educational Web portal, and is filled with all sorts of interactive items for K-12 students, teachers and parents. In fact, many of them are websites that can be used as a whole to cover a subject.

The diversity of the subjects is large, so there's something for everybody.

There's a good mix of fun and educational content. For example the song: Wash hands, and the manual for writing a Haiku.

Have a look yourself.

How to make a link

Lani asked how it's possible to put a link in a comment section.

Because blogger would take away the fun and display only the link here I've uploaded a graphic with the code.

The quality of the graphic was OK, but blogger blurred it.
But I'm sure you'll grasp the meaning.

Have fun commenting!

Yes! ShopWiki in The Netherlands too!

2 items that made this week into a memorable one:
Susan Boyle (Need I say more?), and....

drums.....

tada!!!!!!...

ShopWiki is available for The Netherlands too!

I'm so glad, because ShopWiki really makes a difference.

I know, because ShopWiki already exists for Germany and France, and ofcourse in the UK and the USA: http://www.shopwiki.com.

Wiki means "fast", and in this case it means that you can get a fast comparison of products and prizes.

Because shops are not charged to be added, no advertising is involved.
For us, Dutch, it's the way it should be: clean, no ornaments and elbow work.
Just a plain representation of the facts.

Right now over 7000 online shops are participating and I'm sure that number will increase.
I don't know the amount of products are in the system now, but I'm sure it's huge.
Being the cheapest means not only that the consumer gains, but also that ShopWiki sends a lot of customers and potential customers to a shop.

Yesterday I had a dynamic discussion with the man in the house. I want to have one of those little hand-vaccuumcleaners and he'd seen one for 82 euros.
I had seen one for 49 euros, but I knew they were cheaper.... somewhere....
He just didn't believe me because I couldn't prove it.

Just a moment ago I showed him this page, and he was amazed how easy it was to find products and prizes.
Just chose the name of the brand, chose the product and your at a page where a lot of information is provided.

When it's too much: adjust the prize range at the top right.
Or when you just want to know the information about a certain color, chose the color.

ShopWiki gives you the best prizes and the shops where you can go, links included.
New products are added as soon as possible, with the date of addition mentioned.

Additional information, like descriptions and warnings are given too.

Whenever a similar product is available you'll find a link at the top of the page.
In this case I went to this page, where I found items with more gadgets attached.

Another way of shopping is using the list.
We wanted to know more about cleaning the computer and found good tips. The links in the text and a list of related products at the bottom provided us with the products we need, ofcourse with the welknown ShopWiki prize comparison.

We've bookmarked http://www.ShopWiki.nl and take my advice: you should bookmark this site too.

ShopWiki, not only for your best buys, but also to silence the guys

My autistic boy is all over the place, because his MP3 gave up.

Sometimes I get stressed because of his persistent requests for new items, but this time I told him I would look for one online. I have no plans at all to go shopping this afternoon.

The kids here wonder why mom is able to "organize" things in no time, especially when it comes to products they use and we have to pay for.

While they are visiting online stores they find with the usual search engines, I just visit my own secret place, and come up with the best prizes and the most advanced items.

Unlike other mothers they know, I suddenly speak their iPod language, so I've already used USB connection, Gig, and I even know that the red iPod shuffle contributes to helping AID's victims in Africa.

I'll share my secret with you as long as you don't tell the kids.
I use ShopWiki.com.

It's as easy to use as Google and at least as fast and certainly more targetted to what is needed when one searches for a special product.

Just enter the name of the product, click, and you'll get a list of information, which includes:

  • photos for fast browsing,
  • name and short description
  • 5 stars rating system (with reviews one click away)
  • best prize
  • number of stores
  • and a pop-up with the list of stores and prizes, clickable, so you'll land on the right store in internet.

To get additional informations you can find at the right side a list of Wiki Buying Guides.
The one I used today was highly informative about the iPod and all related products including the MyVu Media Viewer, which might be something to keep my son busy for a longer time.

I love ShopWiki, because I feel like I'm taken serious as a customer.
Over an over I'm guided to the best buy and I'm even warned when I'm prepared to make big mistakes, something I don't often experience in normal shops.
Take for instance the compatibility between iPods and speakers.
Not all iPod speakers dock at the same speakers. ShopWiki made me aware of this and guided me to the right choice.

At the bottom of the products you can find "related searches".
I was ready with my choice, but clicked some of the links to know more about what young people talk about.
Which came in handy.

I was in the garden, talking with one of my other sons about the iPod when the neigbour asked how he could use his iPod in the car. While my son took a breath to answer, I already said: "Just use iTrip".
The silence that followed was a consequence of their amazement.

They both looked at me and I smiled back.
"Use ShopWiki guys", I said and went inside.

To write this post for you.

Do you need some encouragement?

When I was a student I agreed completely with the idea that everyone should give a percentage of their income to charity.
I hoped that by the time I had children it would be normal to pay a percentage for housing, a percentage for education, etc, and a percentage for charity.

But people are too greedy.

Are you one of them?

Or are you altruistic when you're pushed a little?

Well, you can help yourself from this day on.
You can shop with AidMaker.

It's a small piece of software you can download from www.eengoedezaak.nl.
That's a site of aGoodCause.com.

You might have heard about this global organisation.
It's a partnership of 700 important NGO's, like Save the Children, the Red Cross, Oxfam, etc etc. They all work towards a better world for nature and all living beings.

With AidMaker you can shop at 5000 online shops and generate funds for these charities.
When you buy something at these shops, you'll pay the normal prize, but the retailer donates part of the money to the cause you have chosen. 75% of the total purchase will be donated.
There's no need to do something yourself.

After installing AidMaker and choosing the cause you want, all the rest is done automatically.
Ofcourse you can change the cause whenever you want to, but there's no need.

The system is just launched in 8 countries: America, Great Britain, Denmark, Italy, Germany, France and The Netherlands.
You can choose your own language at the site, where you can find more information.

I hope you too want to participate this way in generating funds for charities.

Grand Theft Auto 4. They love to play it.

Post is meant for grown-ups.

It's always nice have the oldest visit home.
He hasn't been around much, because he was able to get one of the GTA IV's that were sold when this month started.

GTA IV or GTA 4 stands for Grand Theft Auto 4.
It's a game, made by Rockstar Games, a new version of the already famous Grant Theft Games.
In fact it's the eleventh game in the series, meant for Xbox 360® and PLAYSTATION®3.

At first he thought it was just another version of the same, but when he was playing he realised that the new engine RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Gaming Engine), really makes a difference.

He also likes the fact that the controls are improved a lot.
He doesn't experience as many questions or uncertainties, which adds to the pleasure.
It also enables him to play "a better line", with the added experience of being able to add personal elements.
The fact that there is no recurrence from figures, like in the old versions, where different figures got the same look, makes one feel to be in a far more realistic world.

He also tried the game out with a couple of friends, and they all enjoyed it.

Need I say more?

Take the Chance to Win a Nintendo® Wii™ and bid for Charter High-Speed® Internet for Life

Last year Charter was Cable Operator of the Year 2007!

How I know that?

Because they are the providers of the Worldwide 250 Calling Plan. A plan that enables people to save on national and international calls.

Charter is a dynamic company bubbling with new ideas.

Now they're offering you the chance to preregister and bid at an auction.

Uhuh, don't run away.

There are huge prizes involved!

Preregistering is free. No need to bid or purchase anything.
It's wise to preregister for the auction because only people who live in the areas where charter services can be used can win the prize.
When it's time for the auction you don't want to loose time assessing the serviceability. So you can do it right now. It's free and easy. All you need is your zip-code.

Not only does preregistering means you have easy access to the auction at march 12 and later, but you'll also have the chance to win a Nintendo® Wii™.

Wow!

This includes:

  • a Nintendo Wii Console,
  • Wii Stand,
  • 5 Sports games ( Boxing, Baseball, Tennis, Golf and bowling),
  • 1 Remote Controller,
  • 1 Nunchuk Controller,
  • 1 Sensor Bar,
  • 1 Wii AC Adapter,
  • 1 Wii AV Cable.

That's all you need to start to play immediately.

Isn't that great?

At March 12 the auction starts for all who live in the Charter serviced areas.
Bidding starts at $10. No reserve.
The hightest bidder will get Charter High-Speed® Internet for Life.
That means the best internet speed which is available in the area, a cable modem and wireless router, and free professional installation.

The auction starts as low as $10!!

They haven't put a reserve on the auction, so when no one else would bid you might end up with a very cheap life time internetconnection.

Charter provides two internet plans:
Charter High-Speed® - Speeds up to 5Mbps
Charter High-Speed® Plus - Speeds up to 10Mbps
Both come with additional services like anti-virus, firewall, and spam-filtering software and parental controls, 10 e-mail addresses per account, extra online storage, personal Web space and a helpdesk which is available 24/7.

Isn't that amazing?

I wish you all the luck of the world.

Marketing your blog

Finally my rank is up again.
It's google's award for a rather boring blog, that's for sure.

In the meantime I've devoted my attention to another blog to learn how to increase blog worth and to see if it's reflected in heavy traffic.

I got some free heavy traffic to my blog because I wrote about the news.
Persoanlly I don't think blogs should rewrite the news. There should be a good critical review added or there should be a humane aspect that needs attention. Like humanitarian need after an earthquake.
Or the readers should be guided to good insight in national and international items, and I did just like that.

Some people have boring blogs that rely completely on blogger traffic tools.
They're just a list of products with well known names of products and businesses, which just fit in the present high ranked seo keywords.
I've never understood why heavy traffic is targetted to top seo keywords when there's no real content, reflecting the ffort on the writers part.

Well, I guess it's to put heavy traffic on search engines.

Have a try yourself.
Find ways to increase the keyword search and you'll end up with many visitors who have a look and never come back.

I personally want a reliable group of regular visitors who are able to spread the word when some good content is written.

At BullionVault.com you can keep your wealth stable

Just another 14 days and it's Robert Burns night again.
It's a traditional Scottish festivity, celebrated around the world by many who feel tied to Scotland. Bagpipers included.

For this year I planned to have smallpipes and surprise my fellow bandmembers with a nice piece of music, which sounds completely different from the highland pipes we all have.

Well. It won't happen.
I'm earning my money in dollars and I need to buy my bagpipes in Euros.
I should have been able to buy my smallpipes last month, but with the drop of the dollar, I'm just over halfway.
It feels so sad.... so sad....

It reminded me of the mother of a friend who gave him a gram of gold each year, and urged him to invest regularly in a few more grams, so he would always have something to fall back on.

Gold keeps it's value, no matter what happens.
Money doesn't.

In the past money was backed up with gold that was kept safely and carefully somewhere hidden. The gold wasn't used, so it didn't loose weight at all.
This golden standard is abandoned last century, and money is now backed by the faith that it's worth a certain amount of desirable products.

Inflation has caused the value of money to drop.
I can now only buy half of my smallpipes with my welldeserved earned money.

To influence the value of money more money is printed or it's taken off the market.
But the amount of gold always stays the same.

In a way money is still an indicator of how the economical situation of the world is.
When there's inflation the prize of gold goes up.

In a way gold still is guarding the economy.
It prevents governments to pump too fast too much new money into circulation, because when the value of the money drops too low too many people want to buy gold, and the value of money will change. Etc etc.

Even now the different currencies are not backed up by gold anymore, it's still a better investment than anything else in currency.

When buying gold you can invest in jewelry, coins or bare gold.
Ofcourse jewelry offers added pleasure, as do coins for the collector, but one has to consider that thare are manufacturer and shippingcosts and such have to be paid, so you'll get less for your money than when you buy bare gold.

Gold is made in bars.
They are large, usually 400 troy ounces each (12.4kg). Length is about 11 inches (28 cm) and purity is above 99.5%.
The professional market doesn't allow you to own part of a bullion bar, because they want to keep the weight of the bars stable. They're not moved, but are carefully kept in bullion vaults recognized and monitored by the local gold dealing community.
Because of this the gold isn't checked by buyers, which reduces costs. That's why they're called good delivery bars.

BullionVault.com is one of the places where you can buy professional market gold in a trusted and internationally acknowledged environment and keep it in any quantity in officially recognized bullion vaults in London (UK), New York (USA), or Zurich (Switzerland).

BullionVault.com enables individual gold buyers to trade on-line in increments as small as 1 gram - currently about $20.

Costs are kept low because of many reasons carefully explained at the site of BullionVault.com.

BullionVault.com has nearly 5 tonnes of gold in its vaults.
It's a transparent business. All client holdings are reconciled every day and published online using anonymous aliases. Protection of privacy is very important.

All the information you need is available at the site.

You can find the dynamic real time gold price at the gold price chart.
(Oh, it makes me feel I should have bought some grams of gold just two hours ago, so I could sell them right now at a far higher prize.)

Like I said, BullionVault.com provides all information needed. And more.
You can get more insight in the subject by reading the get started guide, the research section and all the other pages.

Because not everyone has enough english language skills to understand it all the site is translated in German, French and Italian.
And the goldprizes are given in dollars, english pounds and euros.

Now there are so many changes going on the national and international markets, leading to skyrocketing of prizes, like of oil. Now new participants are taking part in the world economy, like China, we need something to endure our money is worth the same over a few years, or over a lot of years.

Gold does this for you.

Think about it.

Choose where to play at Dex Casino

They're building a new casino here. Near the renewed shopping centre.
I'm not sure if they planned it with the thought in mind that women can go shopping and men can go to the casino, or if they want to keep the area crowded both during the days and the evenings.

Talking with people who went to the former casino reveals that they have changed their focus from real life casino to online casinos, and they doubt if they'll change back to the bussy and noisy offline experience.

Being online means being able to concentrate, have your own kind of music, company and your own kind of drink.

And there's more choice online... that's fur sure.

Dex Casino online is a site that reviews the best and most trusted casinos online.
This is done by a highly experienced team, who review each online casino with an eye for detail and understanding of what players really want.
This is clearly reflected on the site itself, where each casino is efficiently described, so anyone can make a well documented choice.

I like the fact that on this site the experience is described and one doesn't fall back on simple ratings one sees so often.
Creating an image and a feel, make the choice where to play so much easier. And the look of the site is already a preparation of the joy of playing at the casino itself.

Whether it's solitaire or free poker, always realise that you have to set limits for yourself.
Playing online is very addictive.

Burton Hosting for both personal and business websites

Don't forget to sort out your website hosting.

I know it's such a problem to find the right hosting service, especially when you're not able to design the site yourself.

Burton Hosting provides both: hosting and a lot for your website. Like high quality website templates, flash templates and -intros, logo templates, corporate identities, and php-nuke themes.

Burton Hosting offers 24/7 support, both for Business Website Hosting and Personal Website Hosting.

You can add features to your account, like your own domain name, static IP address and more.

To get an idea what Burton Hosting can do for you, you can have a look at some sites they have already assisted here.
Aren't they great?

I'm especially impressed by the website about Dallas.
The forums are very bussy and keeping them up means that Burton Hosting is reliable.

Maybe you pay a little more than at some other services (and less than others), but the friendly assistance, the quality offered and the reliability to stay online whatever happens is the most important.

Even large businesses can find high quality hosting. They can opt for the "dedicated servers package".

Want to know more? Visit the Burton Hosting site or get in contact with the customers service.

Spock knows it all

Ofcourse I have to help my children with homework.
Even though I know a lot, I can't know it all.
Especially with history I need some additional information.
I just didn't listen when I was at school. LOL!

No problem.

There's a new searchengine... well, it's not new.. others have discovered it before me.
This searchengine is called: Spock.

My son had to write an essay about the Piet Hein, who fought the battle against Spain.
My son just typed it in and got a whole list with information too.

Spock can be used to search information and to find people. One can seach by name or by keywords that define the person, like he did with typing in "Piet Hein".

You can sign up and decide what information you want to have on internet: age, haircolour, your site, work, etc.
You can share your knowledge. One way is by adding information to the searchresults. You'll get recognised for your contribution.
As a member you can choose to get alerts when something is added, either on your profile or on that of others.
You can vote for and against a tag or pictures.
Even though it's not the intention of Spock to be a social network, there are opportunities for messaging, and by adding the proper tags you can get all the persons of a group in the searchresults.

The essay was ready in no time.
Added to the already found information he added some text about other historical seamen in Maarten Tromp and about others who served in the Dutch Navy.
I bet he has one of the best documented essays of the year.

Want an example of the info on Spock:

lcd digital photo frames

My son lives in a house with a couple of other people.
They'll celebrate the birthday of one of the groupleaders soon.
A bit too soon to find out themselves what he wanted to have, so they phoned his wife.
She told them he loved to have an lcd digital photo frame.

Now they have a new baby they can't afford to buy one, but when the group at the home will be able to raise the money, she will provide the photos.

What a marvellous idea!

So the young people living there, and the other group leaders have put their money together and they were so happy to have reached the necessary amount.

When they arrived at Digital Framez, they saw there was a discount of 5% for ordering before december 1, so they have bought him not only a digital photo frame but a mug and a package of cocoa too.

I had a look at the site of Digital Framez.
Wow!
They have lowered their prizes tremendously. Not only for the digital frames but also for the portable DVD players.

Worth a look when you haven't done all your christmasshopping.
