Calling to work that he's ill

Because everyone is so afraid for the mexican flu my working son is told he's not welcome at his job, a shop, when he doesn't feel well.

So this morning I woke him up at 7 because he had to call work in time so they could ask someone else to cover for him.

No one there.

8.30 Colleagues have arrived, but none can handle a call about illness. But someone would be in at 8.

8.01 Another call. No one has arrived yet. But someone knows management will be in at 9.

Let's hope so.
It'll be too late to call in a substitute, because the shop is already full functioning at 8.

reconstruction of Bach's face

The way faces can be reconstructed on bare skulls is intriguing.

Today I've seen online the reconstruction of the face of the famous Bach.

Caroline Wilkinson used a coppe rreplica of his skull in her lab at the University of Dundee in Scotland, and with computertechniques gave a new face to Johann Sebastian Bach.

You can see it ::here::.

christmas trees memories

Time goes far too fast.

We're cleaning away the sinterklaasitems and we're making plans for christmas.

Today I walked past a sellingpoint for christmastrees.

Each year they're different.

This year they're very tall and compact.
Like christmaspencils.

The guy who sells them is still the same.

He looked at me when I walked past and smiled.
I smiled back.
Many many years ago, when I was imagining I wasn't a child anymore, I worked for him, selling trees.
It was cold and at times it snowed a tiny little bit.

The people were digging themselves deeper in their coats, pulling the scarfs higher up.

He asked me to sing a song and I did.

It's so long ago...

heavy winds

It's surprising how fast the weather can change.

Today it was rather quiet weather, but when I just went outside I was welcomed by heavy winds.

I don't mind that, as long as it's dry.
But it's raining a lot.. far too much!

Tomorrow morning I have to bycicle a long way.

Part of the route is over some of the dykes here, so that means total exposure to the gods of the weather.

I want sun!!!

Eurovision Song Contest

Laane, I heard there are mayor changes in the ranking at the Eurovision Songcontest.
Why? Can you tell something about it?

In the past neighbouring countries tended to vote on each other.
That wasn't a real problem, because the winner was from another country about each year and all participants could find themselves more or a bit less in the choice of the winner.

When the eastern european countries and former Balkan countries joined, there were more clusters formed, and the winner wasn't always the best participant.

Now the contest will de completely different.
There will be 6 pots to start with, thus preventing returning voting.
That way the best participant will have the chance to win, instead of the country with the most friends.

You can read all at the site of the Eurovision Song Contest.

autumntable

I've been asked how we here get autumn into the house.

Well ofcourse people have there own preferences. So I can only tell how we do it here in the house.

When the children were young they went to a school where they had a seasontable.
Each season the table was decorated with a tablecloth that fitted the season, with the leaves and fruits of the season. And added were little handmade dolls, also made of what was available in the season or of wool.

We kept part of this wonderful idea by having a large flat bowl on the table with stones that are found during the season. (We have a stone finding fool among us, sorry).
Right now we have added an apple, some bramberries (which will be gone in a minute, because they won't stay well long and I like them fresh. LOL!), but also with nuts, acorns, and the first coloured leaves.
I have already made a little man from toothpickes a maple and acorns, and many more mans, horses and dogs (the last two only distinguished by using your phantasy.LOL!) will be made the next week.

Slowly everything will change with the bowl in the centre.
The summermugs will be replaced by ones that are autumncoloured, even the food will change from fresh yellow and green to brown and red.

The way the sun shines in the room will change, so the room will look even more different.

My curtains match the season, but that's sheer luck.

Love for Parker

We all must fight for the life of a child.

Love for Parker

Parker needs prayers,
and your donation to help him get the care he needs.
That sounds strange in such a rich country,
but insurance companies only care for numbers,
not for lives.

Just donate 2 dollar from your paypal,
or more...

Send him white light, energy, prayers,
all the good in the world,
so his bright eyes
can be among those of other children
for many years to come.

Fun Monday

Willowtree hosts today's Fun Monday.
And the question today is:

"Tell us about your best friend. Particularly things like: where you first met, how long you've been friends and why you think you are best friends"

I guess offline life is meant.

Well, at the moment I don't have a BEST friend.
I hardly see anyone as the children keep me far too bussy and tied to the house.

But of the people I know, the best friend is someone who is on vacation now.

We met a few years ago, because her and my children played together.
She came here with a complaint about one of my girls, so the start of our friendship was not well.
Especially not when I started to ask for facts and it turned out it was not my child, but her child that was in the wrong.

We know each other for about 5 years now.

In the beginning we used to drink coffee each week, which soon changed when her children all went to school.
Now I'm only invited when she needs someone to watch her children or water the pants during the vacation.

It's kind of disappointing when people deal with others this way.
On the other hand... as long as the children are friends it's good to know the parents well.
